BJP activists try to disrupt police recruitment test

Imphal, Aug 30 (IANS) The state unit of the BJP tried to disrupt the police recruitment test at the Manipur Police Training Centre (MPTC), Pangei in Imphal east district of Manipur on Tuesday.

BJP state unit president Khetrimayum Bhabananda and two party MLAs Khumukcham Jokishan and Thongam Bishwajit led several party workers and a few candidates, who had appeared in the police constable tests in 2013, in an attempt to disrupt the fresh recruitment test.

The two MLAs who gatecrashed the MPTC were detained as a preventive measure.

The state BJP is demanding the declaration of the results of the 2013 police constable recruitment test which was cancelled after an internal inquiry established instances of marks tampering and other irregularities in the test.

Over 30,000 candidates had appeared in the test for the recruitment of 2,000 police constables.

Home Minister Gaikhangam said, "The government shall have no defence if someone takes recourse to legal redress."

He said that it is unfortunate that some parties are trying to make political capital out of the situation.

However, senior BJP leader Nimaichand Luwang told IANS that over Rs 200 crore have changed hands in this sordid drama.

A 24-hour general strike was also imposed in the Imphal east district against the recruitment test.
