Lucknow, Aug 27 (IANS) A few days after Samajwadi Party (SP) senior leader and Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh threatened to quit the party alleging he along with associate Jaya Prada were being humiliated by leaders in the ruling party, the actress-turned-politician was on Saturday named the senior deputy chairperson of the UP Film Development Council.
Eminent poet Gopal Das 'Neeraj' was recently appointed its chairman. The Council is an advisory body which suggests ways and means to the state government to promote film production related activity in the state.
Jaya Prada has also been given cabinet minister status by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
The appointment of Jaya Prada is likely to pacify Amar Singh who had given vent to his feelings only recently alleging that even the Chief Minister was not giving him due respect and was not taking his calls.
Jaya Prada, before her expulsion from the SP in 2010, was the Lok Sabha MP from Rampur.
