Bayern Munich coach Ancelotti pleased with positive start

Munich, Aug 27 (IANS) After thrashing Werder Bremen 6-0 in the Bundesliga football season opener, reigning champions Bayern Munich's coach Carlo Ancelotti hailed the efforts of the players saying an early goal helped them to control the proceedings.

The visitors found themselves trailing 0-2 just 15 minutes into Friday's contest at the Allianz Arena here after giving up goals to Xabi Alonso and Robert Lewandowski on Friday.

"It was a good start to the Bundesliga campaign. We scored an early goal, that was good. We were in control then. We played very well over 90 minutes," Ancelotti said.

"Robert Lewandowski is a fantastic striker. We pressed forward well, set up many combinations and attacked with many players."

Skipper Philipp Lahm, who scored in the 66th minute was pleased with the performance but said that by this performance one could not give a verdict on their pre-season preparations.

"We played good football today, but it's not enough to start giving verdicts on our pre-season preparations. It's the first matchday. We can be pleased," said Lahm.

Speaking on the match, defender Mats Hummels said: "When we were in possession you could see we were delighted to be playing. Apart from a short phase in the first half, when we lacked concentration, we were very focused and clearly dominated the match with our individual class. We were in control all the time."
