French authorities will investigate Scorpene data leak: DCNS

French authorities will investigate Scorpene data leak: DCNSNew Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS) French company DCNS, which suffered a data leak including documents related to India's Scorpene submarines, said on Wednesday that the matter will be investigated by "proper French authorities".

DCNS, which has designed the Scorpene stealth submarines being built in India, said in a statement: "DCNS has been made aware of articles published in the Australian press related to the leakage of sensitive data about Indian Scorpene."

"This serious matter is being thoroughly investigated by the proper French national authorities for Defense Security. This investigation will determine the exact nature of the leaked documents, the potential damages to DCNS customers as well as the responsibilities for this leakage," the statement said.

Australian media reported on over 22,000 pages of the leaked data, which contained several documents on the Scorpene submarines designed by French company DCNS. The submarines, which are to form the core of India's submarine fleet, are being built in India by government-owned Mazagaon Dock Limited (MDL) in Mumbai at a cost of around $3.5 billion.

The Indian Navy has said the leak will not compromise the stealth aspect of the submarine as it does not contain the real signatures of the vessel, which can be known only when it is ready and hits the sea.
