Los Angeles, Aug 24 (PTI) Riri Williams, the black female character who will take over the superhero Iron Man in the new "Invincible Iron Man" comic book series, has been officially named Ironheart.
Marvel announced back in July that a black female teenager named would take over Iron Man suit from Tony Stark in the upcoming book series.
Its creator and writer Brian Michael Bendis has revealed Riri will be going by the name of Ironheart instead of Iron Man or Iron Woman, reported Aceshowbiz.
Michael said that "Iron Woman seemed old fashioned to some." He continued, "Iron Maiden looked like a legal nightmare. And Ironheart, coined by Joe Quesada, after I told him my planned story for Riri, speaks not only to the soul of the character but to the Iron Man franchise as a whole."
Bendis went on to explain that Tony first put on the armor to save his heart.
He continued that Riri, a science genius who enrolls in MIT at the age of fifteen, "puts it on for different reasons altogether but still heart-related. When people see her story, you'll be amazed at how simple and brilliant Joe's suggestion was."
Riri will be one of two characters who replace Tony Stark as part of "Marvel NOW!" superhero line relaunch in early October.
"Invincible Iron Man" launches this year in November.
