Chennai, Aug 22 (IANS) Power generation equipment maker Toshiba JSW Power Systems Pvt Ltd on Monday announced the first shipment of 800 MW steam turbine generator (STG) to NTPC Ltd's Kudgi Super-Critical Thermal Power Station in Karnataka.
In a statement here, Toshiba JSW said the STG is the company's first large-scale power generation system to be manufactured and assembled with locally procured components and tested in India.
"In February 2012, Toshiba Group received an order for three 800MW steam turbine and generator island packages (STG) for the Kudgi Super-Critical Thermal Power Station from NTPC, India's largest state-owned energy service provider. Toshiba Corporation fulfilled the first part of the order, and Kudgi Unit 2 and 3 has been made by Toshiba JSW in Chennai," the company said.
The production facility here is the first and only overseas thermal power plant equipment manufacturing facility outside of Japan.
"Following shipment of this first unit, we continue our work on the STG for Kudgi Unit 3, Meja Units 1 and 2, Darlipali Units 1 and 2, and on an Ultra-Super-Critical STG for Harduaganj," Yoshiaki Inayama, Managing Director, Toshiba JSW, was quoted as saying in the statement.
