Chennai, Aug 22 (IANS) The Madras High Court on Monday issued notice to the Tamil Nadu assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal against the suspension of DMK legislators for a week but declined to stay the ruling.
Dhanpal had suspended the DMK legislators for creating bedlam in the House on Aug 17.
Leader of House and Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam had moved a resolution for suspending the DMK legislators and it was adopted by the House.
The DMK has 89 members, including party chief and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who did not attend the session on Aug 17.
On Aug 19, the suspended DMK legislators held a mock assembly session outside the Tamil Nadu secretariat building, even as the state legislature was in session, to protest against the suspension.
Following this, the police filed a case against the DMK law makers.
