Shillong, Aug 22 (IANS) The Meghalaya government will ask Pawan Hans Helicopters to explain a technical glitch in its chopper that aborted a flight last week by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, state Transport Minister Horju Donkupar Roy Lyngdoh said on Monday.
"We will seek a detailed report from Pawan Hans on the incident as to why the helicopter which was to ferry the Union Minister to Guwahati airport failed to take off," Lyngdoh told reporters.
"The government was not aware of the technical snag, but if such an incident had occurred then it is a serious matter, considering the safety and security of people who are using the helicopter," Lyngdoh said.
Jitendra Singh flew on August 16 on a Pawan Hans helicopter, hired by the BJP's central office, from Assam to Mairang Sub-Division in Meghalaya to attend a function at Nongkhlaw, the birth place of U Tirot Sing, to pay tribute to the Khasi freedom fighter.
After attending the function, Jitendra Singh boarded the same helicopter but it failed to take off due to a technical glitch.
The Pawan Hans authorities then arranged another helicopter for the Union Minister to ferry him to Guwahati.
Jitendra Singh is Union Minister of State for the Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER).
