Berdych pulls out of US Open due to appendicitis

Aug 22 (IANS) Czech tennis player Tomas Berdych will miss the upcoming edition of the US Open after he was diagnosed with appendicitis during his participation in the Western Southern Open in Cincinnati.

The World No.8 player confirmed the news on his Facebook account on Monday as he said, "I'm very disappointed to announce that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year," reports Efe.

"I was just diagnosed with appendicitis in Cincinnati, so I will be flying back to Europe for additional checks and treatment," he explained.

The Czech player pointed out that he will need to "take some time off to recover fully" but he is looking forward to playing again "as soon as possible".

Berdych, 30, has not any Grand Slams since the 2003 US Open.
