Telangana announces Rs.5 crore award for Sindhu

Hyderabad, Aug 20 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday announced a cash award of Rs.5 crore for Rio Olympics silver medallist badminton star P.V. Sindhu.

He also announced a 1,000 square yard house site in Hyderabad and a government job for Sindhu.

Rao also declared a cash prize of Rs.1 crore for Sindhu's coach Pullela Gopichand for his badminton academy.

The announcement at a news conference here on Saturday evening came hours after his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N. Chandrababu Naidu announced Rs.3 crore for Sindhu and Rs.50 lakh for Gopichand.

The Telangana chief minister also declared that the state government will give Rs.1 crore cash prize to Sakshi Malik, the woman wrestler who won bronze at the Rio Olympics.

Rao said a grand welcome will be awarded to Sindhu on her arrival in Hyderabad.
