‘Need more awareness about laws, more transparency, for effective governance’

New Delhi, Aug 20 (IANS) The National Human Rights Commission and the National Law University have said that there is need for more awareness about laws, rules and policies, along with better accessibility with the government for effective governance in the country.

The other suggestions made during a two-day national seminar on 'Good governance, development and human rights' also included need for more transparency, simplification and use of easy digital technologies as a two way communication tool to give the people benefits of the welfare policies and get their feedback.

The event was organised by the National Human Rights Commission in collaboration with the National Law University, which concluded on Saturday.

"It was also felt that the definition of health care needed to be expanded in the Indian context. It was also suggested that a provision should be made in the higher education curriculum for the students to visit places to sensitize people at grass root level about their rights and remedies for the redressal of their grievances," said an official statement.
