Monsoon falls into lull in HimachalShimla, Aug 16 (IANS) The southwest monsoon has remained subdued in the hills of Himachal Pradesh with most of the areas not experiencing any significant rainfall at all, the Met Office here said on Tuesday.

There could be either little rain or no rainfall at most of the places in the state till weekend, it said.

"Monsoon is dormant as precipitation occurred only at some places in the past 24 hours (since Monday)," an official at the weather bureau told IANS.

 

There was no appreciable change in the maximum and minimum temperatures, he said.

The tourist towns of Manali, Dalhousie and Chamba saw no rains.

But state capital Shimla, which saw a high of 24.6 degrees Celsius, experienced 28 mm of rain.

Dharamsala in Kangra district recorded the state's highest rainfall of 109 mm. It recorded a maximum of 27.6 degrees Celsius.

Most of the rivers in the state were in spate following heavy rainfall in the past two weeks.

A government spokesperson said as rainfall subsided, the water level in the Satluj, the Beas and the Yamuna rivers and their tributaries has started to recede.
