Haryana CM remembers freedom fighters

Chandigarh, Aug 15 (IANS) Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday hoisted the national flag in Sirsa town to mark India's 70th Independence Day and remembered the freedom fighters.

Sporting a saffron headgear (pagri) and a saffron half jacket, he said the state was developing an international-level war memorial in Ambala to preserve for the posterity the heroic sagas of the sacrifices made by martyrs from the state.

As a symbol of patriotism, the memorial would continue to inspire the youth to devote their lives to the service of the country, he said in a message.

Urging the people to work together, he said this year was of great pride and joy for the people of Haryana as the state was entering the golden jubilee year of its inception.

"We should not only celebrate this year as a festival but also resolve to work together to ensure the progress and development of the state," he added.

A colourful cultural programme was also performed by school students.

Similar Independence Day functions were also organised in all district headquarters.
