Six detained over attack on BJP leader

Ghaziabad, Aug 12 (IANS) A day after BJP leader Brijpal Teotia was shot and wounded here, police on Friday detained for questioning six persons including an Uttar Pradesh Police woman constable.

A hundred rounds were fired at the Bharatiya Janata Party leader from automatic weapons, including an AK-47, when he was returning to his house in Kavi Nagar from Rawali village at about 8.30 p.m on Thursday.

He sustained six gunshot wounds and has been admitted to Fortis Hospital at Noida where his condition was reported to be stable.

Six persons have been detained for questioning, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Pandey said.

"Prima facie the incident seems to be an outcome of personal enmity," he said.

"Teotia has had a rivalry with a dreaded criminal, Rakesh Hasanpuria, who was killed by Ghaziabad police in an encounter. His wife Sunita, an Uttar Pradesh Police constable, is among those detained. But till now no arrest has been made," added Pandey.

Teotia contested the 2012 assembly election from Murad Nagar on BJP ticket but lost.
