Dhaka, Aug 11 (IANS) Police in Dhaka are preparing an information log on foreign nationals living in the Bangladesh capital, in order to provide more security to foreigners following a string of attacks on them, including the cafe terror carnage.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is seeking information on foreigners, such as where they live, work and which areas they frequent, to ensure more safety for them, a police official said, reported Dhaka Tribune.
In a recent move, special bus and rickshaw services were launched in the diplomatic zone Gulshan following the July 1 cafe terror siege, in which 20 hostages, mostly foreigners, were killed by militants.
On September 28, 2015, Italian citizen Cesare Tavella was shot dead in the diplomatic zone of Gulshan-2.
Within a week, Japan national Hoshi Kunio was gunned down by militants in Alutari area of Rangpur.
Police have taken numerous measures to secure Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and other areas where foreigners live.
The city police commissioner has asked officers to take measures against any security firms that use uniforms similar to that of police.
The Commissioner gave the instructions to 49 officers-in-charge of different police stations and deputy commissioner of DMP-8 crime zone at a monthly crime conference on Wednesday.
Police officers were asked to intensify security vigil in all areas, including the diplomatic zone.
