Riding on valiant centuries from all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin (118) and stumper Wriddhiman Saha (104), India recovered from the early jolts they received on the opening day.
The right-handed duo forged together a 213-run stand for the sixth wicket before debutant pacer Alzarri Joseph managed to separate them with the wicket of Saha caught behind by keeper Shane Dowrich.
From there on, West Indies managed to snare the last four wickets within just 14 runs.
