Anantnag (Jammu and Kashmir), Aug 10 (IANS) Despite curfew, scores of people in this south Kashmir district on Wednesday rallied in dozens of boats in the Jhelum river, shouting pro-freedom slogans.
As a large number of security forces were deployed to prevent protestors from coming out on the streets, people took to the water ways to vent their anger.
Boats with the protestors flying green flags rowed downstream in the river from Uranhall area to Pazalpora in Bijbehara -- covering a distance of about seven kms.
The protestors then dispersed peacefully as security forces kept watching from a distance.
It was the first of its kind demonstration in the Valley where 56 persons have been killed and several thousand injured in over a month-long unrest following the death of a rebel commander on July 8.
Most parts of the valley have been under a tight security lockdown for the last 33 days.
