Lucknow, Aug 9 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh (UP) police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested the prime accused along with two other accomplices in last month's Bulandshahr gang rape of a woman and her teenage daughter.
Late Monday night, the director general of police (DGP) tweeted about the arrest of Salim Bawariya head of a gang from Rajasthan.
Officials also informed that the special task force (STF) of UP Police nabbed the prime accused from Meerut. Following the leads given by Bawaria, his two other accomplices Zubair and Sajid Chamaria were arrested by the STF from Mawana.
The arrests came hours after the Allahabad High Court (HC) rapped the state government over the incident and sought a status report on the gang rape that took place at the NH-91 in Bulandshahr on July 29 after the miscreants robbed the family.
IG (Meerut) Sujit Pandey said that Salim along with his other accomplices went to Kithor after committing the crime and then split to head in different directions.
During the interrogation, the police claimed, the gang members have admitted of having committed more than two dozen such crimes on highways.
Meanwhile, the victims of the gang rape have requested for some more time to record their statements before the magistrate.
The mother-daughter were to record their statement on Monday but as the girl was not well the statement recording was deferred.
