Retired police officer jumps in front of train, dies

New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS) A retired Delhi Police officer allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train on Sunday, railway police said.

The deceased was identified as Ram Swarup Bhasin, who retired from police five months ago as Assistant Commissioner of Police, a Government Railway Police (GRP) official said.

A senior GRP officer told IANS: "A call was received around 6 a.m. that a man had committed suicide by jumping in front of the train near the Tilak Bridge station."

"The deceased was identified after a suicide note was recovered from his pocket," the officer said.

"In his suicide note, he has clearly mentioned that he was fed up of his life due to his health issues," the officer said.

"We then called the family of the deceased who identified the body," the officer added.

The GRP officials also said that according to his family, he feared he was suffering from stomach cancer as he was not responding to the medicines.

"He used to leave his house everyday without informing anybody," the officer added.

The officer was residing in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area with his family. The body has been sent for postmortem.
