Jammu, Aug 7 (IANS) Strategic Jammu-Srinagar national highway was closed on Sunday due to landslides in Ramban sector of the road, a senior police official said here.
"Incessant rains in Ramban district triggered landslides at a number of places on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway which has been closed for traffic. Road clearance operations will be started after the rain stops," the official told IANS.
"Intending passengers are advised not to undertake a journey before contacting traffic police control rooms in Jammu and Srinagar," the official said.
The 300 km long highway is the lifeline for supplies to the landlocked Kashmir Valley. All essentials of life are routed to the valley through this highway.
Temporary closures of the highway helps hoarders and profiteers to dictate prices in the valley.
