Javadekar inaugurates IIT-Raipur

Raipur, Aug 7 (IANS) Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Sunday inaugurated the Indian Institute of Technology-Raipur on the Government Engineering College campus here and interacted with children from the Maoist-affected areas of Chhattisgarh.

Inaugurating the IIT, Javadekar said the institute will have its own campus by the time its first batch of students pass out.

The minister interacted with children from the Maoist-affected areas at Prayas Avasiya Vidhyalaya run under the Mukhyamantri Bal Bhavishya Suraksha Yojana.

The meritorious students from Maoist-affected districts are given admissions in Classes 11 and 12 in these schools and provided free coaching for various competitive exams in medical and engineering streams.

Appreciating the Prayas Avasiya Vidhyalaya, an initiative of the Chhattisgarh government, Javadekar said: "It is a successful and meaningful example of imparting quality education to all, specially those who come from the disadvantaged sections of society."

He said the school was transforming the lives of children from Maoist-affected areas.
