Szasz takes Olympic gold for women's fencing back to HungaryRio de Janeiro, Aug 7 (IANS) Emese Szasz will be taking back to Hungary the women's fencing championship thanks to her victory over Italy's Rossella Fiamingo in the final of the epee event at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Szasz, 33, who as a competitive young girl stated out as a swimmer but soon switched to fencing, bested Fiamingo by 15-13 and so replaced on the list of Olympic champs the Ukrainian Yana Shemiakina, who this time around lost to Japan's Nozomi Sato, reports Efe.

World champion in 2010, Szasz took gold in this contest 12 years after the Hungarian Timea Nagy did the same at the 2004 Games in Athens.

At Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012 she was quickly defeated, while her Olympic comeback in Rio was carried out in grand style.

China's Sun Yiwen won the bronze medal by defeating France's Lauren Rembi by 15-13.
