Lawyers’ strike paralyses work in Delhi courts

New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS) Judicial work in Delhi's courts was paralysed on Friday by a strike of city lawyers protesting the reported assault on lawyers during a clash with the police on Wednesday morning.

"We are protesting against the recent incident that took place in Rohini Court complex where lawyers were beaten up by police officials followed by a false First Information Report against an advocate," New Delhi Bar Association President Santosh Mishra told IANS on Friday.

"The strike has been successful in all the six district courts -- Patiala House, Tis Hazari, Rohini, Karkardooma, Saket and Dwarka -- and would continue till evening," she added.

A clash broke out between lawyers and police personnel at Rohini court complex on Wednesday after the security staff allegedly abused and assaulted 28-year-old lawyer Gaurav Suneja, who was in civil clothes and was stopped from entering the court premises.
