Gurgaon to have 1,100 traffic cops

Gurgaon to have 1,100 traffic copsChandigarh, Aug 5 (IANS) Haryana Police plans to deploy 1,100 traffic police constables in Gurgaon following criticism over massive traffic jams in the wake of heavy downpour during monsoon this year, an official said on Friday.

Director General of Police (DGP) K.P. Singh told a meeting of senior Haryana Police officers here that the initiative was expected to facilitate smooth movement of traffic in Gurgaon.

People had to suffer long hours in traffic with many arterial roads remaining clogged for nearly 15 hours.

Addressing the meeting, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar directed police officers to set up a separate FIR Registration Cell and to deploy adequate number of officers to complete investigation in the least possible time.

He ordered the officers to explore possibilities for bringing in changes in police training to eliminate corruption and ensure that the personnel were honest, hard-working and responsible. He said that officers should keep pace with the changing scenario and incorporate new ideas and methods into the system.

Khattar said that the present state government had for the first time ordered a weekly off for all police personnel.
