Asad Ali alias Pahalwan, 27, a resident of Meerut, was arrested from west Delhi's Dwarka where he had gone to deliver on Thursday a consignment of illegal arms to gangsters of Najafgarh -- on the outskirts of Delhi.
Police said 10 pistols and nine long-barrel guns apart from 20 cartridges were seized from Ali's possession.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav said Asad was the second big firearms supplier arrested this year after Savinder Kumar, who was arrested in February while carrying 50 sophisticated pistols.
"Asad has supplied several arms consignments in various parts of Delhi, National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh during two years he has been in the business," an officer said.
Asad used to sell sweetmeat in villages when he came in contact with illegal firearms manufacturers and suppliers in Muzaffarnagar and Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
"He purchased each countrymade pistol with five cartridges for Rs 7,000-Rs 8,000 and gun for Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 and sold it for a profit of Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000," the DCP said.
Asad was arrested twice in Uttar Pradesh in 2015 for possession of illegal weapons but got bail, he added.
