Republican Hewlett Packard CEO Meg Whitman endorses Hillary Clinton

Washington, Aug 3 (IANS) Hewlett Packard (HP) CEO Meg Whitman, a prominent Republican donor, officially endorsed Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton on Wednesday for the White House and promised that she will make a "substantial" donation to Clinton's campaign in order to prevent the victory of "authoritarian" Donald Trump.

"As a proud Republican, casting my vote for president has usually been a simple matter. This year is different," EFE cited Whitman as saying in a message posted on Facebook.

The HP CEO, who was a former California gubernatorial candidate in 2010, considers Donald Trump a "demagogue", "reckless" and "uninformed" and called on Republican voters to "reject" him in the November elections.

"Trump's unsteady hand would endanger our prosperity and national security. His authoritarian character could threaten much more," she added.

Whitman also divulged that the Clinton campaign approached her one month ago to seek her support which shows the Democratic candidate's strategy to sway the Republican elite who are dissatisfied with Trump's unorthodox election style.
