‘Haryana government implementing Swaminathan Commission report’

'Haryana government implementing Swaminathan Commission report'Gurgaon, Aug 3 (IANS) Haryana Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar on Wednesday said that the BJP government in the state is implementing Swaminathan Commission recommendations step by step.

"we have increased the compensation for crop damage due to natural calamities or disasters in order to provide relief to farmers. The commission has recommended steps to increase the income of farmers and hence we are motivating them to adopt floriculture, horticulture, dairying etc.," he told the media here.

He said some people were stuck with the name of Swaminathan Commission only but had not tried to understand its recommendations.

The BJP government is developing 54 of the 108 agricultural markets in Haryana as e-mandis, to enable farmers sell their produce at higher rates in the international market.

Dhankar said Haryana was implementing insurance schemes at minimum premiums to cover crops and domestic animals.

He said the state is among leading ones to implement 'Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojna' and according to initial estimates about 20 per cent Haryana farmers had adopted the scheme in its very first year.
