AAP, BJP protest Bulandshahr gang rape

Bulandshahr, Aug 3 (IANS) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday took to the streets to protest against the gang rape here in Uttar Pradesh.

AAP activists took out a procession and burnt the effigy of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate.

Calling the rape of the woman and her daughter on the national highway a shame, the AAP said the state government had proved incompetent to protect women. It demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The BJP took out a candle march to the Maliwara market and demanded a CBI investigation into the crime.

The Gitanjali Welfare Educational Society and the women's wing of the Congress party also sought the resignation of Akhilesh Yadav.

The woman and her daughter were going to attend an event in their village Shahjahanpur when they were robbed and raped here last week.

Police have arrested three people but many here say these may not be the real criminals.

The police claimed that seven criminals were involved in the robbery and gang rape.
