Beijing, Aug 2 (IANS) Typhoon Nida made landfall on Tuesday in China's Guangdong province, weather authorities said.
The strong typhoon packing winds up to 151.2 km per hour is moving northwest at 25 km per hour and is expected to sweep across the cities of Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Foshan and Zhaoqing to neighbouring Guangxi Zhuang region, according to Guangdong provincial weather authorities.
Nearly 200 trains were suspended on Tuesday, including 180 bullet trains, according to a statement issued by the Nanning Railway Bureau. Trains from Guangzhou to Nanning, capital of Guangxi, and Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province, were among those suspended, Xinhua news agency reported.
More than 2,000 soldiers and paramilitary forces, as well as over 100 ambulances, have been deployed for the emergency response in Shenzhen.
