Mother, two kids killed in building collapse, BJP alleges criminal negligence

New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) A woman and her two sleeping children were crushed to death in a roof collapse in west Delhi's Uttam Nagar area on Monday. The Delhi BJP has accused the AAP-led Delhi government of "criminal negligence" over the incident.

The dead have been identified as Manju, 40, Tanu, two years, and Daksh, four, police said.

Delhi BJP unit chief Satish Upadhyay, who met the family of the deceased, said the accident was caused as the Delhi government had laid sewer lines in the area. He termed it an act of "criminal negligence".

The fire brigade received a call of building collapse from Mohan Colony at 2.46 a.m., a fire officials told IANS.

"A portion of the roof of the first floor building in which they were staying collapsed, resulting in the death of the two children and woman," Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Pushpendra Kumar told IANS.

The officer said that no construction work was going on in the building.

"The building was old and probably in bad condition, that's why it fell," the officer said.

The husband of the woman sustained minor injuries and was shifted to hospital, police added.

Upadhyay said, "It's criminal negligence by Water Minister Kapil Mishra, AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) MLA Naresh Balyan, local DJB (Delhi Jal Board) officials and the DSIIDC (Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation) Officials."

Upadhyay said that Mishra and Balyan had full knowledge about water logging in about 20 houses of the area due to "negligence" in the work of laying sewer lines.

"They did not take any concrete steps to solve this problem though the locals had brought this case to the knowledge of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia several times," he said.

"This unfortunate incident happened about which the citizens had cautioned the Delhi government many times," the Bharatiya Janata Party leader added.
