Feeder buses to ply on Delhi’s narrow roads: Transport Minister

Feeder buses to ply on Delhi's narrow roads: Transport MinisterNew Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) The Delhi government is mulling to ply over 1,000 feeder buses on the narrow roads of the national capital to prevent traffic congestion, Transport Minister Satyendar Jain said on Monday.

He said that the government was planning to run new feeder buses, operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), on small routes which pass through narrow roads in the city.

"We have observed that the large size low-floor buses occupy lot of space on roads that are 60-feet or less wide. This often lead to traffic snarls so keeping this in mind we have chalked out a plan to run feeder buses, which are smaller in size, on such roads," Jain said.

He also said that there were several routes where, except for morning and evening rush hours, number of passengers was not much, so plying low-floor buses on such routes was causing loss of revenue.

"Feeder buses will be run on these routes," he said.

Besides, Jain also said that in next few months, every service of the Transport Department like issuance of driving license, registration of vehicles, or permits will be made online and directed the department's senior officials to prepare a detailed plan in this regard.
