CPI-M politburo not to intervene in issue of Kerala CM’s adviser

CPI-M politburo not to intervene in issue of Kerala CM's adviserNew Delhi/Thiruvananthapuram, July 31 (IANS) The CPI-M politburo, which had its two day meeting in Delhi, decided not to intervene in the appointment of Harvard University professor Gita Gopinath as an economic adviser to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan despite the objections raised by veteran leader V.S. Achuthanandan.

Achuthanandan, in a letter, had expressed his displeasure to Communist Party of India-Marxist chief Sitaram Yechury over the appointment as her economic policies does not match with that of the party.

The politburo however decided not to intervene in the issue and concluded that such things can be decided at the state level and by the government.

The appointment of Gopinath became an issue when the media took it up after the Congress party in Kerala expressed "surprise" and later after Achuthanandan shot a letter to his party supremo.

But with Vijayan firmly in control of the affairs both in the party and the government, there was no whimper of protest from any quarters as the state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had already said the appointment has been approved by the state unit.
