Water harvesting pits can solve waterlogging: K.K Kapila

New Delhi, July 29 (IANS) International Road Federation (IRF) Chairman K.K. Kapila on Friday said that municipal bodies need to construct water harvesting pits to get rid of waterlogging due to rain.

"Water harvesting pits can be the best solutions for the waterlogging issues. This is very successful in all other countries where currently there are no more waterlogging issues," Kapila told IANS.

Explaining about water harvesting pits, Kapila said these are pits which are connected to pipes which can release the water somewhere else.

Earlier in the day, Road, Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to rush a team of officers to Gurgaon which is facing severe waterlogging, that has led to stalling of vehicle movement.

The traffic snarls started when the National Capital Region was flooded after heavy rainfall on Thursday. The movement of vehicles was later restored.
