Kolkata, July 29 (IANS) The Indian Institute of Technology - Kharagpur is setting up a design and innovation centre having special focus on rural technologies with an outlay of Rs 10 crore, a statement said on Friday.
"IIT - Kharagpur is setting up a design and innovation centre having special focus on rural technologies with an outlay of Rs 10 crore in three years from the Ministry of Human Resource Development," the statement said.
The institute will be the hub with four spokes: IIEST Shibpur, NIT Rourkela, NIT Jamshedpur, and NIT Patna.
In addition, the institute will host as many as 13 new projects under the "Uchchatar Avishkar Yojana" of the Indian government to spur innovation in areas that are directly relevant to the manufacturing and design industry. The funding for the projects is Rs 66 crore.
