Iran’s presidential elections slated for May 2017

Tehran, July 28 (IANS) Iran is set to hold its presidential elections on May 19, 2017, authorities said on Thursday.

The country's powerful 12-member Guardian Council of the Constitution, which is charged with interpreting the Islamic Republic's fundamental law, announced the date, Efe news reported.

Iran's current President Hassan Rouhani is heavily favoured to win re-election for a second term, after his surprise landslide win in the first round of the June 2013 presidential elections with over 50 per cent of the vote.
