New Delhi, July 27 (IANS) The Union Home Ministry has asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to identify "suitable land" in the Kashmir Valley for the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits, Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Replying to a question, Ahir said the government has taken a variety of measures over the years for the rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants.

"Under the Prime Minister’s Package 2004, (a total of) 5,242 two-room tenements have been constructed in Jammu (Purkhoo, Muthi, Nagrota and Jagti) and 200 flats at Sheikhpora in Budgam district (Kashmir Valley) have been allotted to the migrants,” Ahir said in a written reply.

“So far, state government jobs have been provided to 1,719 Kashmiri migrants and 505 transit accommodations have been constructed in the Kashmir valley,” he added.

The Minister said that besides this, the government also approved another package in November 2015 for providing an additional 3,000 state government jobs to the Kashmiri migrants and construction of 6,000 transit accommodations in the Kashmir Valley.
