Dhawan convener of Indira birth centenary celebration panel

New Delhi, July 27 (IANS) Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday appointed R.K. Dhawan as the convener of the implemetation committee for the Indira Gandhi birth centenary celebrations in place of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

The change was made since Dikshit has been named the chief ministerial candidate in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and is pre-occupied with campaigning in the state that goes to polls in early 2017.

"The Congress President has also constituted sub-groups with regard to the Indira Gandhi birth centenary celebrations for organising various activities all over the country," a statement released by Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said.

P. Chidambaram and Ajay Maken have been made in-charge of lectures/seminars and symposium group.

Kamal Nath and Oscar Fernandes have been made in-charge of rallies/All India Congress Committee session and party and frontal organisations related activities.

Anand Sharma, Kumari Selja and Milind Deora have been made in-charge of exhibitions/competitions, cultural programmes/films, literary works and digital outreach.

Mani Shankar Aiyar and Randeep Surjewala are in-charge of publicity and outreach coordination with Congress-rules states.

Sheila Dikshit, Priya Dutta and Imran Kidwai have been made in-charge of constituency specific programmes such as Allahabad, Lucknow and Varanasi and Women's Day celebrations.
