Delhi HC dismisses private schools’ review plea on fee hike

New Delhi, July 27 (IANS) The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a review petition against its earlier order that no private unaided school allotted land by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) shall raise fee without prior sanction of the Education Department.

A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath dismissed the petition filed by NGO Justice for All, which had sought the review of the high court's order of January 19.

On January 19, the Delhi High Court made it clear that private unaided schools which were allotted land by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) shall not hike fees without prior sanction of the Delhi government's Education Department.

The schools "cannot indulge in profiteering and commercialisation" of education, the court said sternly.

The court also said that the Delhi's Directorate of Education "shall ensure compliance" of the terms laid down in the letter of allotment of land issued by the DDA to these schools.
