Kolkata, July 26 (IANS) The Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended a woman and her minor son from near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district for trying to smuggle out silver worth over Rs 3 lakh, an officer said on Tuesday.
The woman and the boy were nabbed by the troopers of 76 Battalion from near the Hakimpur border outpost area on Monday.
"A special patrol party intercepted the woman riding a scooty with her 13-year-old son and trying to cross the international border.
"Searching them, nearly 9 kg of silver valued at over Rs. 3 lakh was seized from them," said a BSF officer.
The woman identified as Rakiba Dalal, 35 and her son Yamin are residents of the district and have been handed over customs officials for further action.
The BSF so far in the year has seized silver worth over Rs. 25 lakh and apprehended 7 smugglers including three Bangladeshi nationals from the South Bengal frontier.
