Six members of inter-state gang held in Delhi

New Delhi, July 26 (IANS) Six members of an inter-state gang of robbers were arrested and arms and ammunition seized from their possession, the Delhi Police said on Tuesday.

"We seized a foreign-made 7.65 mm pistol and two countrymade .315 pistols, six cartridges and a robbed Toyota Fortuner SUV," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said.

The Special Cell identified those arrested as gang leader Islamuddin, 41, Saleem, 25, Surender, 32, Mohammad Sabir, 24, and scrap dealers Mohammad Irshad, 25, and Mohammad Irfan, 29.

Islamuddin was arrested along with his two associates from the Nangloi area of west Delhi on Monday, when the three arrived to meet other gang members, police said.

Sabir was arrested near Mundka Metro station and a robbed Honda City car was seized from his possession, a police officer said.

Irshad was arrested from east Delhi's Akshardham area on Tuesday. A car and seven cartridges of .765 mm were seized from him, police said.

On June 30, the gang had snatched a Swift car from a Haryana Police Inspector, posted at the DLF Sector 29 police station in Gurgaon.

The gang was involved in more than 34 cases of robbery and dacoity reported in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the police said.

The gang mainly targeted trucks transporting copper wires from godowns. They later sold the robbed copper to the arrested scrap dealers.

Yadav said the gang comprised 15 members.

Islamuddin, a resident of Mewat in Haryana, was first arrested in 2001 in a kidnapping-murder case, police said.

He is allegedly involved in more than 40 cases of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and carjacking. He has been declared a proclaimed offender in more than five cases.

The police also seized fake Aadhaar cards, driving licences and voter ID cards, registration and insurance certificates of vehicles along with 19 mobile phones and about 25 SIM cards.
