Heavy rain in Delhi, more predicted for Wednesday

New Delhi, July 26 (IANS) While the heavy but patchy rain on TUesday provided the national capital with some respite from heat and humidity, rainfall would increase on Wednesday, a weather expert said.

Even though the rain stopped in the evening, south and east Delhi and north Ghaziabad may receive rainfall towards the night.

"Wednesday might see more heavy rains and this would continue increasing for the next few days till the end of July," Mahesh Palawat, Director of Skymet private weather forecaster, told IANS.

On Tuesday, the rain started around 2 p.m. and continued for over an hour, the Indian Meteorological Department said. Rainfall was recorded in Noida, Ghaziabad and parts of Gurgaon.

Delhi has so far seen seven per cent deficient monsoon rain as recorded between June 1 to July 25. About 239 mm of rainfall is considered to be normal while Delhi has so far received 222.6 mm rainfall.

"The continuous rainfall for the next few days would bring the deficient rainfall at par with the normal," Palawat added.

The reason of sudden increase in rainfall in Delhi is being attributed to the northwards shift in monsoon trough from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
