FC Pune City sign foreigners Ferreira, Ndoye

Pune, July 22 (IANS) Indian Super League (ISL) franchise FC Pune City on Friday announced the signing of Eduardo Ferreira and Momar Ndoye to strengthen their foreign options for the forthcoming third edition of the football tournament later this year.

Ndoye joined Spanish club Atletico Madrid as a youth in 2007. The 24-year old Senegalese impressed the scouts there to then go on and play for the 'B’ team of the former La Liga champions. In 2012, he was finally picked for the first team.

Ferreira, on the other hand, has ample experience of playing in South America, South Africa and Asian leagues. He spent his youth career playing for Fluminese, Flamengo, and Corinthians.

The Equatoguinean journeyman has played in the South African Premier Soccer League with Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Ferreira, who currently is playing in the Persian Gulf Pro League was happy to accept the new challenge in India.

“I am thankful to FC Pune City for providing me a new challenge. This will be a new experience for me and I am excited to come to India and do what I do the best,” Ferreira said.

Ndoye was excited about working with club’s head coach Antonio Habas, a former Atletico player himself.

“I have heard great things about the Indian Super League and want to make the most of my experience of playing in India,” Ndoye said.

Head coach Habas said, “Eduardo is an experienced campaigner and makes our defence line up solid. As a centre back, Eduardo has all of the qualities to be a success in ISL - he's strong, he's excellent in the tackle and he's very good technically.”

“At the same time, Ndoye brings more sharpness to our forward line. He will contribute a lot, as he's a player with outstanding talent and quality. He can unsettle opponents, score goals and give spectacular performances,” the former Atletico de Kolkata coach added.
