LHMC doctors go on strike after three assaulted by patient's relativesNew Delhi, July 21 (IANS) Doctors at the Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) went on strike on Thursday after three resident doctors were allegedly assaulted by relatives of a three-year-old girl who died after being brought to the hospital in a critical condition.

According to the eye witnesses, the relatives also bit one of the doctors on his arm during the alleged assault.

"The three-year-old girl was brought in the paediatrics ward in a critical condition and the family was told that her chances of survival was grim. She passed away at around 5 a.m. following which her parents called up their relatives, who after arriving, attacked the resident doctors on duty," a senior resident doctor from the hospital told IANS.

 

He also said that even the security guards had vanished from the scene.

According to the doctor, after the incident, around 1, 200 resident doctors have gone on strike.

He said that the strike will be on till the hospital administration agrees to enhance security in the hospital and arrest all accused of the assualt.

"We have asked for upgrading the security in the hospital premises in terms of number of guards and installing CCTV cameras. However, even during this incident, the guards ran away and the few CCTVs that are present in the hospital were not working," said Ravider Chauhan, president of the resident doctors' association at LHMC.
