Cabinet nod for 1,980 MW Ghatampur thermal power plant

New Delhi, July 20 (IANS) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Wednesday approved the construction of the 1,980 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Project in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs 17,237 crore, an official said here.

"CCEA has given its approval for installation of Ghatampur Thermal Power Project of 1980 MW (3 X 660 MW) capacity through a joint venture company Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd. formed jointly by Neyveli Lignite Corporation and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam," a Coal Ministry statement said.

"The project will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 17,237.8 crore. The commissioning of Unit I, II and III will be 52 months, 58 months and 64 months respectively from starting date.

"The benefits of this generation will be available in the 13th Five Year Plan. The energy generated by the GTPS (about 14,000 MU/annum) will mainly be supplied to Uttar Pradesh," it said

The Coal Ministry has already allotted the Pachwara South coal block in Jharkhand for meeting the coal requirements of the project, the statement added.
