Kolkata, July 20 (IANS) The West Bengal government will chart out a plan to restructure and redevelop two ailing state public sector undertakings and ensure that no worker was fired, a state minister said on Wednesday.
"Eastern Distilleries and Chemicals Ltd. and Himul have been ailing for a long time. We will restructure them and redeploy staff so that there are no job loss. All will be absorbed," Education and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee said after a Cabinet meeting here.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directed that nearly 80 employees and excess workers of Himul dairy, operating under the Animal Resource Development Department, will be redeployed, he said.
The Cabinet decided to increase the retirement age of medical officers to 65 from 62 to tackle shortage in state hospitals.
It also approved the setting up of development boards for the welfare of north Bengal communities of Kami, Damai and Sarki.
