Incessant rains lead to UP rivers rising to danger levelsLucknow, July 19 (IANS) Heavy rains in the past four days, specially in central Uttar Pradesh, have led to increased water levels in most rivers of the state with some approaching danger levels, an official said on Tuesday.

Saryu, Rapti and Sharda rivers touched the danger mark on Tuesday leading to large scale evacuation of people from low-lying areas and from the banks of the river.

The army has been alerted in many districts in case flooding gets worse, an official informed IANS. Boats have been pressed into service in some villages of Faizabad, where as many as a dozen villages have been inundated with water, leaving thousands marooned.

 

Link roads at many places have been washed away in Bahraich and Ghaghra is in spate. Rapti is in spate in Shravasti and many villages have been flooded here too.

Water continued to increase in Sharda and Ghaghra rivers in Sitapur on Tuesday and district officials have sounded an alert here. In Amroha, the Ganga is nearing the danger mark and the situation in Lakhimpur Kheri is also precarious owing to incessant rains in the region.
