New Delhi, July 18 (IANS) Trinamool Congress parliamentarians led by the party's floor leader in the Lok Sabha Sudip Bandyopadhyay on Monday staged a demonstration in the Parliament House complex against rising prices of essential commodities across the country.
Displaying posters, the lawmakers raised slogans against the central government.
"Our protest is against the price rise. All over the country, there is no control over the rising prices," Bandyopadhyay later said.
The party said it had given a notice in the Lok Sabha for discussion on the price rise.
The TMC leader, however, asserted that during the ongoing monsoon session of parliament, it will play the role of a "responsible opposition".
"During the monsoon session, the Trinamool Congress will play the role of a responsible opposition in Parliament," he said.
The Trinamool members also attacked the Centre over the situation in the Kashmir Valley in the wake of July 8 killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani by security forces.
Bandyopadhyay said his party also supported the passage of the Goods and Services Tax Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
