At least 64 persons hailing from 11 countries including the US, China, Mongolia, Malaysia, India and Thailand were ordained during the ceremony in Pathum Thani province, on the outskirts of Bangkok, Efe news reported.
During the ceremony, which began at 6.00 a.m. (local time), novices dressed in white robes participated in chants and prayers, before being presented with the orange robes bestowed upon those ordained into the monkhood.
The ordination was organised in honour of the upcoming Buddhist Lent, or 'Khao Pansa', which begins on the first day after the full moon of the eighth lunar month, which in this year falls on July 20.
During this period, Buddhist monks must reside in one place, typically in a monastery or temple grounds, where they engage in meditation and prayer.
