Amarnath Yatra resumes, over 127,000 have ‘Darshan’ since July 2

Jammu, July 16 (IANS) After remaining suspended for two days, Amarnath Yatra resumed on Saturday as another batch of pilgrims left here for the Valley.

"After remaining suspended for two days, Amarnath Yatra was resumed today (Saturday).Another batch of Yatris left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in 100 buses for the Valley at 4.30 p.m.," a senior police officer told IANS.

"The Yatris left in a convoy escorted by the security forces," the official added.

An official of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) that manages the affairs of the Yatra told IANS so far this year, over 1,27,000 pilgrims have had 'Darshan' inside the cave shrine situated at 3,888 metres above sea level.

"All the Yatris at the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps are safe. The Yatris are being provided all facilities with the assistance of the local people," the official said.

The 48-day-long annual Amarnath Yatra started on July 2 and will conclude on August 17 this year coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals.
