Kolkata, July 15 (IANS) The Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) management chose to remain evasive on their marquee player for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season amidst speculation that Uruguayan legend Diego Forlan will don the coveted jersey.
"We have not decided on our marquee player yet. We will be announcing his name before the August 28 deadline," ATK co-owner Sanjiv Goenka told reporters here.
Atletico, who made it to the semi-finals last year, had a bad experience with their marquee. Portuguese striker Helder Postiga was roped in but he picked up an injury in the 2015 season opener and remained unavailable for the rest of the competition.
"You learn from the mistakes. Each franchise makes a team with the objective to win, nobody wants to lose. We have had a selection process and the coach will make the final call," Goenka said.
Forlan was the Golden Ball winner at the 2010 World Cup and had made 112 appearances for Uruguay, netting 36 goals.
He last plied his trade with Uruguayan Primera Division side Club Atlético Peñarol at his home town Montevideo.
